Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG: Support for High-Vulnerability Sectors in Panama
As part of its sustainability and corporate social responsibility strategy, the firm, through its AFRA ESG, initiative, recently executed a direct support campaign for Hogar San José de las Misioneras de la Caridad.
This initiative, coordinated by the Social Aid Committee, focused on mitigating basic shortages in health and hygiene supplies (milk formulas and diapers) for defenseless populations.
Targeting Social Aid
The selection of Hogar San José de las Misioneras de la Caridad as the beneficiary stems from an analysis of critical needs within the local community. This institution, founded by Mother Teresa, serves a highly complex demographic profile: individuals in situations of abandonment, predominantly children and adults with severe disabilities, including cerebral palsy.
AFRA’s intervention aims to provide essential resources to guarantee the daily operability of care centers that often function with limited resources despite high assistance demands.
The "Social" Component in ESG Strategy
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has evolved into measurable ESG criteria. AFRA’s action is not isolated but responds to the Social component of its AFRA ESG initiative, strengthening the link between the private sector and public welfare institutions.
The active participation of employees in the collection of supplies fosters an internal culture of corporate citizenship, aligning the team's values with the urgent needs of the Panamanian social environment.
Implications for Social Cohesion
The role of the private sector is fundamental in complementing the work of NGOs and the State in caring for vulnerable groups.
- Direct Impact: The donation of essential supplies has an immediate effect on the quality of life and dignity of resident patients.
- Institutional Sustainability: Corporate support allows institutions like Hogar San José to redirect their operating funds toward other critical areas such as specialized medical care or infrastructure maintenance.
