AFRA earned a unique distinction when it represented the winning bidder (Bellsouth) on the privatization process for the first cellular band line in Panama back in the late 1990’s. Since then, AFRA has continuously and uninterruptedly represented the major cellular band operator in Panama, positioning us as a premier law firm advising on complex regulatory matters in the telecom industry. Our background includes representing clients on administrative and judicial litigation on telecommunications disputes with the regulator, competitors and other players in the industry. We have also gathered experience handling civil and commercial matters for telecommunications companies, including setting up rights of way on common use infrastructure, lease or usufruct agreements for the installation of telecommunications equipment, and joint venture arrangements with key partners or service providers.
On the energy sector, AFRA has remained active since the privatization of the energy generation and distribution business in the 1990’s. AFRA has advised an important number of energy generation companies, local and international, with a particular focus on the hydroelectric generation and, as of lately, wind, solar and LNG plants. AFRA’s strong advise includes representing clients with the regulator (ASEP and the Secretary of Energy) and guiding clients through Panama’s regulatory energy framework. Our capable and knowledgeable energy attorneys have also represented clients in due diligence and acquisition processes of energy generation and distribution companies.
