Governance and Education: AFRA Mentorship in the AmCham School Principals Leadership Program

Alfaro, Ferrer & Ramirez | Providing legal services

As part of the strategic execution of its program AFRA ESG, the firm actively participated as a mentor in the 2025 edition of the San Miguelito School Principals Leadership Program. This initiative, promoted by the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama (AmCham), aims to transfer management and leadership capabilities from the private sector to the public education sector, strengthening school governance in high-priority areas.

Transfer of Management Capabilities

The technical intervention was handled by the partner Luis H. Moreno IV and the associate Santiago Mesa, who provided strategic support to the directors of Louis Martinz Technical Professional Institute. The joint work materialized in the development of the project “Let's Build a World with Values”. Beyond the theoretical implementation, this project sought to structure methodologies to foster critical soft skills—respect, solidarity, responsibility, and empathy—through collaborative activities. The role of the AFRA mentors was to facilitate the efficient planning and execution of these initiatives, ensuring their viability and sustainability within the school environment.

Systemic Impact on Public Education

The AmCham program represents a successful model with measurable results. To date, the initiative has impacted the administrative and academic management of 51 educational centers, directly benefiting 80 directors and deputy directors. The multiplier effect of this school governance training reaches more than 43,200 students in the district of San Miguelito, indirectly improving the learning environment and educational quality of the region.

Alignment with ESG (Social and Governance) Criteria

For AFRA, participation in educational mentoring programs responds to two pillars of its sustainability strategy:

  • Social (S): Direct contribution to SDG 4 (Quality Education) through professional volunteering.
  • Governance (G): Promotion of ethical and efficient leadership practices in public institutions.
