Anticipating the challenges that would be faced by the presence of COVID-19 in Panama, Partner Juan Gabriel Gonzalez was invited on March 13 by the Panamanian Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture to discuss new telework regulations in Panama, which had been signed into law by the President earlier in the year. The first case of COVID-19 in Panama was identified on March 9, and since then the Government has been implementing measures that have resulted in a significant number of companies operating remotely. This situation has triggered a number of questions from clients on telework and employment issues in general. AFRA is also working remotely but we have been in constant contact with friends and clients and we continue to respond to many questions that have been arising out of the effects of COVID-19 on businesses in general, such as force majeure, regulatory restrictions, banking, employment and immigration, special permits, tax measures, insurance, enforcement of contract and so forth.
