On January 14, 2020, AFRA co-sponsored with La Prensa a morning panel discussion on the new minimum wage regulations that were approved and signed into law by the President at the end of 2019. Our Partner, Juan Gabriel González, shared the panel with the Labor Ministry of Panama, H. E. Doris Zapata, and together with other panelists they discussed the impact that the new minimum wage will have on the economy and the labor market. Our Associate, Patricia Salvador, acted as moderator of the panel. Under Panamanian law, minimum wage is revised every two years and will vary depending on the geographic location and activities. The new minimum wages, which will become effective today January 15, 2020, reflect an average increase of approximately 3.3%, with some sectors showing increases from 1% and others up to 8%. The next revision of minimum wage will take place on 2021 and become effective 2022.

El 14 de enero de 2020, AFRA copatrocinó un Café con La Prensa para discutir las nuevas normas de salario mínimo que fueron aprobadas y firmadas por el Presidente al cierre del 2019. Nuestro Socio, Juan Gabriel González, compartió el panel con la Ministra de Trabajo y Desarrollo Laboral, S.E. Doris Zapata, y junto con otros panelistas discutieron el impacto que el nuevo salario mínimo tendrá en la economía y el mercado laboral. Nuestra Asociada, Patricia Salvador, actuó como moderadora del evento. Bajo ley panameña, el salario mínimo debe ser revisado cada dos años y varía dependiendo del área geográfica y actividades. Los nuevos salarios mínimos, que son efectivos a partir de hoy 15 de enero de 2020, reflejan un incremento en promedio de aproximadamente 3.3%, con algunos sectores mostrando incrementos de 1% y otros hasta 8%. La próxima revisión del salario mínimo será en el 2021 para que sea efectiva en el 2022.
