AFRA continues to consolidate its round of academic breakfasts offered to friends and clients. On November 14, 2018, Partner Annette Bárcenas and her team led a presentation discussing challenges and developments under the new public contracting law that was recently enacted in Panama. The presentation also offered an overview of several case studies that allowed participants to get a better grasp and understanding of the “do’s and don’ts” in public contracting.
Panama has led the attraction of foreign investment in Latin America, and has witnessed an impressive program of public infrastructure works, which have included the expansion of the Panama Canal, two additional bridges over the Panama Canal, Lines 1, 2 and 3 of the Metro of Panama City, expansion of Tocumen International Airport, a new energy transmission line, and thousands of kilometers of new roads and highways, amongst many others. All of this has resulted in amendments and changes in public contracting rules to enforce transparency, competitiveness and efficiency in the bidding process. Our friends and clients were able to discuss first hand with our team of experts all of these important developments.
