Intellectual Property

AFRA has an Intellectual Property Department made renowned by a team that perfectly knows and handles the legislation of intangible assets.

AFRA 's lawyers provide comprehensive advice to domestic and foreign companies in the protection and defense of their intellectual property rights both in the administrative and specialized courts.

We have contributed to the development of the legislation and all its major changes, so we deeply know and understand the Panamanian Intellectual Property Laws and the impact that such laws can have on business. On the other hand, we have not only participated in the legislative process, we also share our experience by teaching classes and seminars, educating on the basics, the evolution of the law and the right way to protect intellectual property rights in Panama.

The Intellectual Property Department has the legal capacity and experience to address not only the specific issues relating to the registration of a trademark or the protection of the name of a business establishment, but also holds the legal capacity to advise on complex issues relating to the unfair competition in advertising, product packaging and violation of copyright rules. This Department also handles all aspects of applications regarding patents, utility models and industrial designs, including their prosecution and enforcement.

From Panama we are able to assist our clients in protecting and defending their intellectual property rights in North and South America, the Caribbean Islands and Europe.

The Intellectual Property Department provides service and advice for trademark registration in Customs and the Panamanian Free Zone as well as the registration and renewal of domain names.
